What This Rest Calculator Helps With

The Rest Calculator combines sleep-window planning, caffeine cutoff timing, hydration reminder timing, and consecutive-shift fatigue reflection. It is different from the Sleep Planner because it looks beyond sleep cycles and adds quick recovery-risk prompts for back-to-back shifts.

Who this is for

Night shift nurses, bedside nurses, new grads, med-surg nurses, ICU nurses, ER nurses, and anyone trying to decide whether their turnaround is realistic.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the time you clock out.
  2. Enter when your next shift starts.
  3. Enter how many shifts you have worked in a row.
  4. Review the sleep window, hydration milestone, caffeine cutoff, and fatigue-risk prompt.
  5. Use the result to plan recovery, commute safety, and whether you need additional support or schedule adjustment.
Important safety note: This is a fatigue-risk reflection and shift recovery planning tool. It is not medical advice, fitness-for-duty clearance, or employer policy. Follow facility fatigue policies and seek help if you feel unsafe to work or drive.

Example Use Case

A nurse finishes the third night of a stretch and is considering picking up another shift. They enter the turnaround time and consecutive days, then use the output as a prompt to think through sleep, caffeine, hydration, commute safety, and whether overtime is worth the recovery cost.
